The 2011 Earth Science Technology Forum (ESTF2011) was held June 21-23, 2011, at the Westin Pasadena in Pasadena, CA, and drew more than 230 attendees from universities, industry, NASA centers, and other government agencies. Over 75 presentations were given on latest advances in NASA-funded technology for Earth science observations within two parallel tracks of sessions.

Charles Elachi, Director of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, gave the Plenary Address:

Luncheon speakers Jack Dangermond of Esri [+ Presentation (59MB, PDF) / + Listen (51MB, mp3)] and Richard Terrile of JPL described the rapidly evolving power of computing capabilities for intelligent web maps and intelligent machines, respectively.

Special sessions developed for this year's forum included discussions of new investments in the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program, and emerging information systems technologies of special interest to the Earth science community. Vipin Kumer of the University of Minnesota spoke to the information systems forum on the critical role of data fusion strategies; and Jack Kaye, Associate Director for Research within the NASA Science Mission Directorate, was one of five panelists discussing future science drivers and information technology trends relevant to advanced information systems technology.
