Abstract:
We will present a description of the new Compact Airborne Formaldehyde Experiment (CAFE) that we developed for the AITT program. The instrument is a laser induced fluorescence based instrument designed for operation on high altitude aircraft like the ER-2. The measurements will be used to investigate photochemistry in the upper troposphere and lower stratosphere and to assist in the validation of satellite measurements of formaldehyde. We will present preliminary measurements obtained during the KORUS campaign that investigates air pollution in Korea and validation strategies for the Korean geostationary GEMS satellite.
