Abstract:
Under the ESTO Sustainable Land Imaging – Technology (SLI-T) program Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems (NGAS) is building and demonstrating a next-generation photonic imaging instrument. Our objectives for the SLI-T program are to build and test an integrated hyperspectral photonic instrument covering two SLI bands Cirrus (1.36 – 1.39 µm, 3nm resolution) and SWIR 1 (1.56 – 1.66 µm, 6nm resolution). In our first program year we designed and fabricated an integrated waveguide/detector package that demonstrates high waveguide packing densities, using our heterogeneous integration processes to couple detectors with photonic waveguide layers. We are currently developing a custom Read Out Integrated Circuit (ROIC) that makes optimal use of our unique package geometry. This talk will present our program status and next level of progress towards an integrated photonic brassboard instrument.
