Title of Paper: Development of Fourier Transform
Spectrometers for Space-Based
Applications

Abstract: Fourier transform spectrometers (FTS)
provide high throughput, high spectral resolution, and uniform broadband
coverage. This combination of features is difficult to achieve with any
other spectrometer design. However, FTS also tend to be large, heavy,
expensive, and delicate, limiting their usefulness outside the laboratory.
At NASA Langley research center we are working to develop robust lightweight
FTS for Earth radiation budget studies and mixing ratio profile retrievals in
the stratosphere and upper troposphere. In this talk we discuss our recent
accomplishments.
